If you have footwear with good support and are still having foot pain, there are a few things to check before ordering custom orthotics.
Foot pain may not sound like it would be linked to a fungal infection, but I was surprised that adding essential oil of thyme to a nightly foot lotion eliminated a number of symptoms.
Fungus is also a common foot condition today, even if it initially only shows as yellow or thickening toenails.
Essential oil of oregano is an excellent anti-fungal remedy that eliminates most toenail problems, with earlier being better. It might present as nail lifting, splitting in layers, peeling skin, or nails with an unusual yellowish tint. Essential oil of thyme, oregano or tea tree are all strong anti-fungals.
There may be some initial discomfort when first applied as it attacks the fungus but this soon subsides to no reaction. Dilution with any good base oil, including coconut or olive oil, makes for a milder application. Coconut oil is a natural anti-fungal oil. Alternating between two anti-fungal essential oils is preferable.
Heels that crack or have heavy calluses develop even after regular filing and oil applications can also be linked to fungal infection – although more often attributed to pressure and friction. My peeling skin and cracked heels didn’t heal with nightly filing and lotion, but it was quickly eliminated once I added essential oil of thyme.
Using natural remedies means longer use, so a foot fungus condition might need a month or more of daily application and regular use.
Foot baths with ½ a cup of apple cider vinegar added to the warm water or ¼ cup of borax powder are additional anti-fungal options to prep your feet before the oil or lotion with essential oil application.
Sealing the skin with a thicker medium before bed, like Bag Balm, quickly results in soft, healthier skin. Some people prefer to wear sox with this application, others find it so quickly absorbed that sox aren’t necessary.
Bag Balm is designed to heal the udders of cows after irritation from milking machines. It has an antiseptic property that results in its healing action. It’s noted for veterinary use but the active ingredient of 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate at 0.3% is also found in some skin lotions at a higher percentage. Bag Balm’s content is compared as similar to coal tar components used in some shampoos. It’s available at most farmers co-op stores although some Costco and a few pharmacies also carry it due to its popularity for eliminating rough skin on feet and elbows.
Topical magnesium chloride applications can be a surprisingly effective solution for foot pain. Someone who tried every route to relieve foot pain and was ready to order orthopaedic shoes, finally tried the Ancient Mineral topical magnesium chloride. I was delighted to hear that it did indeed eliminate his foot pain.
Magnesium chloride is known to have antibacterial properties but has not been reported for anti fungal properties, although it is known to ease pain associated with bone and muscle.
If you do have any foot fungus indications, it won’t necessarily be contained to your feet, it may indicate a systemic fungal imbalance at some level.
An inner cleansing program to purge and rebalance systemic function can only be beneficial. Fungal infection is being linked by some progressive doctors to many diseased states that gradually undermine health and may escalate into more serious disease.
This is to be expected when we consider the amount of sugar in most diets and the amount of synthetic chemicals we ingest in packaged foods. Just saying…. best to keep it on your radar and do some preventive care.
To the best of health,
