As an alternative therapist of some 20 years, health topics are a bit of a focus, but it may be that life’s main ingredient is contentment! I’m currently travelling, experiencing other cultures, savouring different perspectives and deciding which components are the biggest contributor to our wellbeing. Yes, what a fun part of my journey is right!
My health practice evolved from a variety of therapeutic experiences and settings. It began in physiotherapy clinics where the power of massage to accelerate the body’s natural healing process was obvious.
When unable to work traumatized tissue without causing additional pain, the positive results with lighter bodywork therapies of lymphatic drainage and Reiki led to a broader skill-set.
The response with energy therapy soon encouraged more extensive study in craniosacral and polarity therapies. Swedish massage also appears to have deeper and longer-lasting results when combined with energy balances for a more comprehensive treatment.
From the experience of education, my practice, clients and life, I now enjoy working with people as part of their journey in healthy lifestyle at whatever level matches their interest. As an educator with massage therapy students and in wellness workshops, it’s encouraging to see the expanding interest in self-care… because you can’t give what you don’t have.
With health being a blend of our habits and attitudes, articles suggest topics to consider for optimum wellbeing. There are suggestions for health enhancing practises through surprisingly simple routines that can have surprisingly big benefits.
I believe that a contented mental attitude is one of the most important parts of a vibrant, healthy life. When you’re not contented, it’s important to make the changes to realize your dreams.
Lifestyle education was an outgrowth of my interests that started at age 24, after traumatic family deaths at a time when the medical system couldn’t diagnose mononucleosis from rheumatic heart fever. My late 30′s found me addicted to medical drugs, those handy little tranquillizers doctors are trained to believe are the best answer. Not knowing better, I said ‘yes’. A few bigger hits happened in later decades but none with an easy label. Those potholes were the pieces of how I learned, so I can’t really regret the experiences although I won’t lie and say it was easy. But what is?
Belief in the power of our body intelligence was reinforced through the process of regaining my own health, largely occurring through natural methods that make a strong foundation for anyone seeking better health.
