Massage Workshop for Caregivers

As a caregiver in a long-term care facility or for in-home assistance, having the skill to provide effective and safe massage assists to reduce stress or anxiety for your client, accelerates recovery of many conditions and provides nurturing touch that goes a long way to improve outlook.

Depending on the condition, even basic massage can be a positive influence for improvement. Study at this level acquaints you with proper posture and techniques as well as awareness of when and how it is safe to work at an introductory level versus when to refer to a registered massage therapist.

Touch is instinctive and many cultures have used massage as part of daily routines. It has become popular again today due to its results and the positive impact massage has on all levels of health. Massage can improve or impede a condition. What makes it effective is knowing how to work complementary to how our body functions. This intro workshop will familiarize you with the following:

  • realizing the differences in basic techniques, their use and varying pressure

  • increase your awareness of individual needs in regards to massage time, application and safety

  • options for clients who are uncomfortable with touch

The main benefits of massage that have been proven scientifically to enhance health include:

  • improved circulation of both blood that nurtures all cells in our body and lymph that removes wastes from our system

  • better nervous system function resulting in improved sleep patterns and enhanced emotional and mental wellbeing

  • reduction of muscle tension to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness

  • Correct posture to massage without straining your own body

  • Options for ease of you and your client: chair massage versus the table

  • Proper basic Swedish Massage techniques and how to apply them effectively

  • Sequence of movements

  • How to work complementary to body function

  • Basic precautions and safety

  • What hydrotherapy does and its safe use

  • Introduction to common conditions: arthritis; depression; inflexibility

This workshop is available on-site at senior care facilities or for small group participation at my location (maximum 4 people per workshop). It includes instruction, demo, practice and question periods.

Cost: at my location: $150 per person

When: to be arranged for a Sunday class or a weekday

Time: 5 ½ hour intensive with hands-on practice with a partner

Deposit: $70 deposit per person
